Good Morning, John, I'm sure we have something in common. I'm far from an
expert on the Wiggins line, but there were several families of them who
moved from NC to Alabama between 1815 and 1820 and settled in Monroe Co and
Conecuh Co. they were all related and frequently intermarried with each
other and into the same families, so often Wiggins descendants are related
several ways.
My grandmother Carpenter was born Emily Virginia Wiggins (1867, Monroe co)
to William Calloway Wiggins, s/o Elijah Daniel Wiggins 1784, Sampson Co,
NC) s/o William Wiggins 1755 NC and so on back....The only Wiggins
descendants I've met in the flesh are descended from Emily Carpenter's
sister Margaret and her husband Nathan Bell who lived in Wiggins MS. My
Carpenter grandparents married in Monroe Co in 1886 and lived there and in
Clarke Co and then in Mobile and moved to NM in 1910 where my grandfather
had bought a ranch and my grandmother raised cotton. They remained
married, but didn't often sleep in the same house by then.
Look forward to hearing from you....it seems to me that people in AL, MS,
and GA are mostly real nice, at least in the small towns, much like west
Texans....

Hello again, John,
According to Lucy Wiggins Colson of Huntsville AL, Oliver J. Wiggins was
s/o Elijah Daniel Wiggins, Jr, b. 1824 1825, in AL.( prob Monroe Co, my
thought), son of Elijah Daniel Sr b. 15 Jan, 1784 in NC, prob Sampson Co.
ED Jr, married Mary Ann Barnes. His brother and her sister, William
Calloway and Rutha Barnes Wiggins were my greatgrandparents, which makes us
(let me count on my fingers) double third cousins twice removed. Mary Ann
and Rutha's parents were Ann Smoke and Obediah Barnes. He was from GA and
served in the war of 1812 (info from Buel Bell, my second cousin, also your
third cousin twice removed) of Mobile. I've never met Buel but my father,
brother and I had Christmas dinnerwith his parents in Hattiesburg, MS, in
1954, when I was a senior in highschool (only seven years old of course).
May I send Buel your e-mail address? He's been working on this much
longer than I and knows a lot more. Also S Aaron Peavy a 15 year old
fourth cousin twice removed of mine, and I'm not going to figure his
relationship to you right now, is a researcher way ahead of me.
I've known a few Farrell's and O'Farrell's, but none well. However my best
felt hat was made O'Farrell's in Durango, CO, and I expect it to last my
lifetime since it too expensive and too striking to wear regularly. Dark
smoke grey with a turquoise and silver band....cost too much, but I like
it.
I'm glad to meet you, cyberically speaking and look forward to greater
acquaintance. Would love to go to a Wiggins reunion. We have an annual
reunion in GA for all McElhannon in US and have reall;y; enjoyed it.
Several good historians and genealogists and a lot of good musicians.
John Mac

JohnO I don't know, I kind of doubt it. I think Buel's son Doug has much
of it including some pictures in a transmittable form, but I'm not
sophisticated enough yet for that that. I have one gedcom which I haven't
downloaded yet on a braanch of my wife's family, but I don't have a program
yet. They tell me to wait for the DeLuxe version of the latest FTM which
should be out real soon. I'm about ready to try it.....got a lot to learn
about computers as well as genealogy..I'll send your address to Buel along
with your line. I don't know if the common interest or the common
ancestry, but I'm meeting a lot of nice people.
Do you live in Bratt by any chance...sounds like a good place to have fun.
Guess it was for someone's surname.
John Mac
